The Rocket System
Created by Larry Schultz. Perfected through repetition. "It gets you there faster."
Origins & Evolution
Rocket Yoga was developed by Larry Schultz in San Francisco during the late 1980s. A dedicated student of Ashtanga Yoga founder K. Pattabhi Jois, Larry spent years mastering the rigorous traditional sequences.
Traditional Ashtanga strictly gatekeeps advanced postures; you cannot attempt them until an instructor deems you "ready." While touring as the yoga instructor for the Grateful Dead, Larry began modifying the sequences, pulling advanced poses—like arm balances and inversions—from the Intermediate and Advanced series and integrating them with the accessible Foundation series.
Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead coined it "The Rocket" because, as he said, "it gets you there faster."
